Ginger Rogers is best known as one half of "Fred and Ginger", but she was so much more. Yes, she did everything backwards and in high heels, but she also won an Oscar in 1940, introduced many famous standards, costarred with hollywood's elite, and made 73 films in 35 years in the business.

Celebrate 100 years of Virginia Katherine McMath this Saturday, July 16th by watching her movies all day, live blogging, live tweeting, and enjoying the company of other Ginger fans around the world in our chat room!

1:00 PM EST: Bachelor Mother (1939-82 minutes) Risque at the time, Polly Parrish must take care of a baby she finds on a door step, even though she is not the mother.

3:00 PM Vivacious Lady (1938-90 minutes) One of her best comedies, Vivacious Lady is one of Ginger’s only true screwball comedies, and features a young James Stewart, whom she dated off and on through the late 30s and early 40s. Download. Still looking for a streaming link.
5:00 PM Stage Door (87 minutes): One of Ginger’s first forays in to straight comedy, this Best Picture-nominee also features Katharine Hepburn, a very young Lucille Ball, an even younger Ann Miller, and plenty of sassy dialogue. Download.
7:00 PM EST The Major and the Minor (1942- ) A hilarious film featuring Ginger at her comedic prime, this is also the only film to feature Ginger’s mother Lela. This film was also the American directorial debut of the incomparable Billy Wilder. Download. Torrent.
On Sunday, beginning at 11:00 AM EST, we will begin watching the Fred and Ginger films in order. Since there are ten, I’m voting to skip “Flying Down to Rio”. We will work out the details in the chat room on Saturday.
